Built in 1946 by Michael Kraus, this former New Apostolic Church is now home to Verses Restaurant
Purchased in July 2003 by Brett Shantz and Debbie McFadden, former owners of Select Service Caterers, this project took eight weeks and five days to complete.
Debbie and Brett wanted to keep the original feeling of this beautiful building and therefore kept the stained glass, the ceiling motifs and the original church lights. The pews were made into harvest tables now in the centre of the dining room. They were also used to house the unique glass sinks in the powder room, as well as the walls in the “Chef’s Table” dining area. The original hardwood floors were stained and refinished on the main level, as were the beautiful terrazzo floors on the lower level.
Extensive renovations were done in the “church hall” that now is home to the kitchen. You are more than welcome to “take peek” into the kitchen.
Verses is licensed for 110 people. These areas include a balcony which overlooks the main dining room and has a seating capacity of 20, the “mothers room” which is a private dining room accommodating 10 people, and the chef’s table which is located outside of the kitchen where our chefs will compose for you a six or eight-course dinner. We will also “pair” your dinner with wines from the cellar.
Our patio is now open for lunch and dinner or drop by for a glass of wine and a light snack.
At Verses we pride ourselves in amazing, top quality food and professional, cordial service. Please enjoy your experience with us.
